Dolly Parton Shares Her ‘Next Big Move’ in New Emotional Video

Dolly Parton has spent more than six decades building a career that refuses to sit still. Now, at 80, the “Jolene” singer is looking ahead again, even after a difficult stretch filled with grief and health problems.

In a recent emotional video, the country legend made it clear that the next chapter has already started. Parton has been writing, planning, and developing new projects while continuing medical treatment, proving that a quieter public schedule does not mean retirement.

The update comes during a milestone year for the Tennessee native. Parton turned 80 on January 19, 2026, and Tennessee officially marked the occasion as Dolly Parton Day, honoring the singer’s cultural impact and long connection to the state.

The celebration also brought new music. The “9 to 5” hitmaker released a new version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” joined by Miley Cyrus, Reba McEntire, Queen Latifah, and Lainey Wilson, with proceeds supporting pediatric cancer research.

Dolly Parton Turns a Difficult Year Into a Fresh Start

Parton / IG / Parton’s new chapter follows one of the hardest periods of her personal life. Carl Dean, the singer’s husband of nearly 60 years, died in March 2025, leaving Parton to adjust to life without the man who had been beside her for most of her career.

The loss took a real toll. Parton has spoken openly about feeling worn down while grieving, explaining that the experience affected her emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Instead of hiding that struggle, the singer has acknowledged that rebuilding takes time.

Health concerns added another challenge. Parton has dealt with dizziness, dehydration, and other medical issues that forced changes to a schedule known for keeping the country icon constantly busy. Those problems affected several major appearances. Parton postponed and later canceled her planned Las Vegas residency after medical treatments made it difficult to prepare and rehearse at the level she expected from herself.

The health concerns surfaced again in August 2026. Parton had planned to attend a special event for NightFlight Expedition, Dollywood’s major new attraction, but her doctor advised against traveling from Nashville to Pigeon Forge.

Instead, the “Coat of Many Colors” singer appeared through a recorded video. Parton explained that dizziness and dehydration sometimes leave her feeling unsteady, adding that her Nashville doctor had “clipped my wings” and told her not to travel that week.

The country icon also reassured fans that her treatment is moving in the right direction. The singer said things were going well medically and made clear that missing the Dollywood event did not mean she planned to disappear from public life.

Dolly Parton’s Next Big Move Goes Far Beyond Music

Parton / IG / Parton has used the slower period to think, write, and plan. The Grammy winner has said, “New material and fresh projects are coming.”

One of the largest projects is “Dolly: A True Original Musical.” The stage production tells Parton’s life story through her music and personal experiences, with plans aimed at bringing the show to New York.

Broadway is a natural fit for an artist whose catalog already tells vivid stories. Songs such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “Coat of Many Colors” have remained part of American pop culture for decades.

Parton’s music career is also staying active. Earlier in 2026, the singer joined rising country artist Belles for “Son of Jolene,” a sequel inspired by Parton’s famous 1973 song “Jolene.”

The collaboration gives the familiar story a new angle without trying to replace the original. For Parton, the project also shows how older songs can find fresh life when younger artists bring their own voices to the material. Miley Cyrus, Reba McEntire, Queen Latifah, and Lainey Wilson joined Parton on the new version. The project connected Parton’s musical legacy with a charitable cause by directing proceeds toward pediatric cancer research.
